The result: unsubsidized energy costs ranging from $19 to $32 per megawatt-hour, with an average of around $23/MWh. That is roughly 50 percent lower than today's wind power costs.

Cheap Powerful Wind Turbine

Traditional powerful wind turbine, e.g. Vestas V90 3.0 MW, consists of a big three blades carbon rotor of 41 ton and 16 RPM, Necelle of 70 ton contained very sophisticated gearbox, and high tower of 160-235 ton depending on the tower height. The maximal power of the said wind turbine is 3 MW, if nominal wind velocity being 15 m/c, with cut-in velocity being 4 m/c
Such design has evident disadvantages: very big material consume including very costly materials and manufacture and installation.
It's very evident too, that using many relatively small turbines of total power equal to the power of one huge turbine, and being compactly assembled on a tower, would be some times lighter in weight, and some times cheaper and simpler in production and in installation.
Indeed, the smaller power of a turbine, the smaller its rotor's diameter, so air resistance to the rotor rotation is smaller and the rotor rotation frequency can be much bigger than one huge wind turbine can have. It can allow a gearless wind turbine to be used, with quite small and relatively light electric generator and light thin rotor.
The small wind turbines can be fixed inside grid openings, and the grid support is set on a top of a tower and can be able to turn toward the wind.
For example, 7 * 7 ~ 50 small wind turbines, each of them of 30 kW provided by 3.5 m rotor providing 600 RPM being suitable to use gearless generator of about 200 kg each with cut-in as negligible, as 5 N * m only and efficiency 95%.(
http://erga.ru). So being summarized it is 10 ton, and including tower and supporting grid it would be no more than 25 ton totally only versus 110 ton on top of a tower for Vestas V90 3.0 MW and including a tower it is additionally about 200 ton, but if 9 m/c wind the said Vestas provides 1000 kW only,[glow=red,2,300] while my turbine assembly provides 2000 kW, being about US$ 500,000.00 only[/glow], while the said Vestas is an order of magnitude expensive. My wind turbine assembly can be easily installed offshore on an underwater float anchored and can "enjoy" constantly higher wind speeds compared to on-shore application. If the said float would be about 50 cubic meter or so, our wind turbine assembly would be quite unmovable. If each turbine being equipped by AC Rectifier, and all of them connected in series, so additionally it would be needed 40 kV high-voltage cable to transfer the power from the sea to the shore.

Here below I intend to disclose additionally reduced in price design of powerful wind turbine, than it was invented earlier by me and was disclosed in my blogs on 2010/09/25 by article "Super-cheap Powerful Wind Turbine Electricity #2" - see:
http://judbarovski.livejournal.com/33550.html or
http://www.inauka.ru/blogs/article103546.html.The big disadvantage of the above-mentioned previous design was the usage of the rare-earth metal used in permanent magnets of gearless electric generators of the wind turbine. Now about 95% of the world market of the rare-earth metals is export from Chine, being very perfidious trade partner, while the said rare-earth metals are strategic goods being absolutely necessary for a lot of products as a military applications as civil ones to be realizable or competitive.
Moreover the rare-earth metals are very expensive, in spite of very dumping prices practiced by Chine for the goods trade.
Here I offer to replace such generators with permanent magnet by a Brushless self- or separately excited generator/alternator each equipped by AC Rectifier. Although the last wind turbine would be about 30% heavier, but in an order of magnitude cheaper. Nevertheless the grid-type wind turbine offered remains to be some times lighter than the best conventional separated wind turbine of analogous big electric power, but it would be two order of magnitude cheaper!!!, and with negligible cut-in wind velocity, so my wind turbine could be installed in sites with very weak wind, but producing very competitive electricity.
For example, an [glow=red,2,300]offshore wind farm [/glow]of grid-type wind gearless turbines offered and dislocated along Mediterranean coast of Israel of 170 km width can produce at least 1.3 * 0.5 * (8 ^ 3) * 0.45 * 0.75 * 35 * 170,000 * 0.01 * 8600 = 57.5 milliard kWh electricity annualy[glow=red,2,300] by 0.1 US cent per kWh[/glow] if 5 years payback. The electricity is more than the present Israeli consume and can be transformed by its small part into extremely cheap synthetic transport fuels of more than present Israeli consume and into chemistry products, for very profitable export too.
0,1 US cent per KWh ~ [glow=red,2,300] 1 US$/MWh[/glow] + Off-Shore-Grid-Anschlusskosten
Bei KW-Prototypen-Kostenangabe von 350 US Dollars geben diese Entwickler Stromerzeugungskosten von 1 UScent/KWh an,ohne "PAYBACK/Amortisations"Zeitangabe sowie Zinssatz, wuerde dann on-/off-shore 10 US$/MWh ergeben
